Seire Collective’s pieces are crafted by local makers and communities around Thailand and throughout Southeast Asia, celebrating local craftsmanship and heritage. Each of our pieces are collectively and collaboratively crafted by craftsmen from various communities, specialising in various crafted techniques and representing various identities and heritage. The craft techniques ranged from natural dyes foraged from the forest by local farmers, weavers on looms in the lowlands, and weavers and embroiders weaving on the highland of Thailand, weaving on their waist looms. Our aim is to bridge local craftsmen by highlighting various craft techniques behind each of our pieces and collections.
Our design methodology intersects between people, place (environment) and knowledge (local wisdom). To keep the craftsmanship alive, we aim to foster these artistry practices through working directly with makers in their local rural communities, where our ultimate goal is to enable local makers to flourish sustainably and equitably working from their communities, while being closed to their loved ones, without rural migration, leaving their homes for the city.
We regularly do fieldworks, visiting our makers and craftsmen. Find more about our fieldworks here or on our Instagram (@seirecollective)!
